Some call it voyeurism, others call it observation - but I like to watch. Quietly casting my eye over other people and making up stories in my head, wondering why they look so tired, or why they're laughing, smiling, crying, sighing. The largest cross-section of life can be found on a train, where no matter the status, everyone has something in common: destination.

Perhaps these musings may not make any sense. But in my head, it gives me a sense of quiet calm to watch and write.

Note (added 22.5.00)

Finally: I've added the last seven stories, dug up from the recesses of my notebook. This marks the end of this volume of PeopleSpotting; as I'm no longer taking the train every day, this particular series has come to an end. Stay tuned for the second volume - a good way to be up to date is to join the site update list.
