A bill has been passed by the South Dakota state senate which would effectively ban almost all abortions. It has to go to Governor Mike Rounds before it will become law; however, he is a Republican and has a past history of anti-abortion voting. Further on in the article it says "South Dakota even refuses to mandate that hospitals offer rape victims emergency contraception... refusing, in this current bill, to sanction abortion even in cases of rape or incest".

In Washington, The Unborn Victims of Violence Act was approved 254 - 163. This would turn a violent crime against a pregnant woman into two seperate crimes, one against the pregnant woman and one against her unborn foetus. I am not certain how to digest what I feel about this so my thoughts are largely unformed at this point. I can see the reasoning behind it - if the issue of violence against a pregnant woman is seperated from the conservative bias against a woman's right to abortion.

Maybe I'm not seeing things right, but it seems to me as though folks on the conservative side of the political spectrum would like to equip an unborn child with more rights than an adult woman has. That's bothersome.
